If you are operating a food manufacturing or processing facility, or you are a packer, processor or holder of food within the United States, or even if you have already registered with the FDA, you are required to complete the registration process between Oct 1 and Dec 31 of 2012 and every two years thereafter, according to the Corporation for Manufacturing Excellence, which provides advisory and implementation solutions to manufacturers, distributors and their supply chains.
Section 102 of the FSMA amends the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, requiring food facilities to submit registrations to the FDA, containing additional information. Updated electronic contact information for emergency contacts and an assurance that the FDA will be allowed to inspect the facility are required.
Registration may be completed online, by mail or by fax. Facilities that register must be in compliance with the FSMA requirements for a written, auditable food safety plan.
