Acting as a lead logistics provider, DB Schenker will handle the management and integration of multiple service providers, especially freight carriers, on behalf of customers. Services will include coordinating transport by truck and rail, and logistics activities. Each customer of DB Schenker is assigned its own "control tower," similar to an outsourced freight-forwarding department. The provider has amassed a team of experts in Essen, German to expand its logistics services in that area. In another company development, Schenker Limited, the U.K. arm of DB Schenker Logistics, has opened a new facility in the British Midlands. The new Shared Logistics Center covers 5,200 square meters and is dedicated to contract logistics. It offers 12,000 pallet positions, in addition to a team of in-house specialists to help design optimal processes within the warehouse.
