PeopleNet has struck up a partnership with Microdea Inc. to introduce in-cab scanning of transportation documents. The function allows users to scan and transmit documents directly from the cab of a truck using the technology of Microdea and the bandwidth of PeopleNet mobile communications. Scannable documents include bills of lading and signed delivery receipts. In-cab scanning eliminates the need for truck-stop scanning and speeds up international border crossings, the two companies said. Microdea, whose Synergize OnRamp technology integrates workflow and document management, supplies a rugged scanning device securely mounted in the truck cab. Images are transmitted via the open interface of PeopleNet's g3 Services and are captured by Microdea, which makes documents immediately available to third parties such as carriers, their customers or a carrier's document-management provider. PeopleNet provides a variety of products related to intelligent onboard communications, GPS and fleet management.
