OceanSchedules.com, a free online search service for shipper and forwarders looking to book global freight with ocean carriers, has devised a new version of its site which allows registered users to configure the interface to operate in Portuguese and Chinese. The move follows the introduction of a Spanish-language site in May. It was motivated by the large-scale adoption of OceanSchedules.com in South America and China, the provider said.
OceanSchedules.com is a Web-based portal which relies on information provided directly by carriers. It gives users access to global shipping schedules, which are hosted for free via an electronic data interchange (EDI) connection. It integrates with electronic commerce services, including booking, provided by Inttra. OceanSchedules.com claims to provide voyage data covering more than 80 percent of the slot capacity of the world's top 25 ocean carriers. It uses AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML) technology to provide fast, interactive searches. The Schedules Manager tool permits users to filter their voyage searches by carrier, transit time, day of the week, arrival and departure date, and port selection.
