OceanSchedules.com has incorporated new Web-based technologies into its platform for the collection and distribution of real-time vessel-scheduling information. The vendor can now gather data from multiple sources, providing users with schedules and other data for container shipments. For example, a Web services "call" can be made to obtain the most recent schedule data direct from a carrier database. At the same time, a call can be made for additional information such as vessel and documentation cutoff. OceanSchedules.com includes data from 27 of the world's largest carriers, offering 8 million voyage records in one searchable location. The site is used by more than 50,000 monthly unique users around the world, the company claimed. OceanSchedules.com offers free hosting of any carrier schedule via a direct electronic data interchange (EDI) or Extensible Markup Language (XML) connection. The addition of Web services provides carriers with the option of offering up-to-the-minute information for their customers, according to the vendor. Features of the offering include customer lead generation, search-based advertising, schedules management and page customization and branding.
