The service will operate three times weekly from London Gatwick airport. It supplements the thrice-weekly A330-300 Madrid-Johannesburg service, due to start on August 1, and the existing service between London Heathrow, Cape Town and Johannesburg. The new Cape Town route will bring to 27 the total number of weekly flights to South Africa from IAG's London and Madrid hubs, offering weekly lift of up to 440 metric tons into the country. According to IAG, the extra capacity will support the growing perishables market in Africa.
