Under the arrangement, users of MercuryGate’s transportation-management system (TMS) gain access to Modal-X, a Web-based portal for viewing intermodal rates and reserving capacity. In the process, the vendor said, users can execute multi-leg, multimodal shipments with a door-to-door service provider. They can secure spot capacity on Norfolk Southern’s intermodal network without having to log on to TDIS’s Modal-X website. Clients of Modal-X receive the ability to book same-day pickup, and can access competitive “book now” pricing.
