GT Nexus has acquired Metaship AG, a German provider of logistics-management software for importers, exporters and logistics-service providers. The deal gives GT Nexus expanded coverage and products in Europe. Hamburg, headquarters of Metaship, will serve as GT Nexus's European base of operations. The company said it sees "tremendous growth potential" in Europe for advanced logistics technology, spurred by globalization, a changing regulatory environment and complex land-transport networks. Metaship, now operating as GT Nexus Europe GmbH, has been providing logistics software to DHL, among others, for a number of years. The combined product suites will be aimed at customers both in Europe and abroad, GT Nexus said. For logistics providers, Metaship's freight-management system will be combined with GT Nexus's visibility and shipment execution services in a tool that is customized for that market segment. Founders and former chief executive officers of Metaship, Wolf Scheder-Bieschin and Krafft Borner, have joined the management team of GT Nexus Europe, responsible for products and operations, respectively.
