U-Ocean, the ocean-freight division of global freight forwarder U-Freight Group, has begun offering scheduled export consolidation services from New York and Los Angeles to Hong Kong. The weekly service reaches destinations throughout Southeast Asia by transshipment over the Hong Kong gateway. Terence Tsang, vice president of U-Freight America, noted that the dramatic decline of the dollar against major world currencies has resulted in a price advantage for U.S. exporters. "This is a great time to launch the new service to capitalize on export growth and help U.S. shippers to connect directly with important markets throughout Southeast Asia," Tsang said. U-Freight plans further to expand its presence in ocean freight forwarding. The company is readying a new service from its Chicago hub, to be launched in March. The latest addition will provide a springboard for a number of new ocean consolidation services, both from the U.S. and other parts of U-Freight's international network. The company began re-branding its international ocean freight forwarding activities under the U-Ocean name in 2006.
