Just 5 percent of top-level supply-chain positions at Fortune 500 companies today are occupied by women. The number is roughly representative of the business world as a whole, but supply chain would seem to be an area that’s especially ripe for change. After all, the industry is experiencing a severe talent gap in key management roles. And the sweeping nature of global supply chains should offer a panoply of opportunities for women. On this episode, we discuss their chances for employment and advancement with Tisha Danehl, vice president with Ajilon, a professional staffing firm. She reports on the efforts of the national organization known as AWESOME (Achieving Women’s Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management and Education). And she talks about the importance of networking, mentoring and “pipelining” of female executive candidates. There’s hope after all, says Danehl, but we’ve got a long way to go before women are fairly represented among supply-chain executives. Welcome to the 200th episode of The SupplyChainBrain Podcast!
