DB Schenker and BAX Global Inc. have broken ground on their second logistics campus in the U.S., this time in Dallas, Texas. The two companies are planning an early-2009 merger of their U.S. operations. Covering 202,000 square feet, the two new buildings at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport are part of a $20m development project. Approximately 18 acres at the site have been leased for the facility by Dallas-based Perot Development Co., for a 40-year term. DB Schenker Dallas will consist of a 71,000-square-foot cross-dock with 78 front days equipped with dock-high doors, in addition to a 131,000-square-foot side-load structure with 30 doors. The facility also features a 220-foot truck court with a separate, secured storage lot. The campus is designed to be an aircraft and trucking hub for the Dallas area. Schenker and BAX Global began integrating their operations when the latter was acquired in January, 2006 by Deutsche Bahn AG, Schenker's parent. The first steps toward merging the two took place last year in Chicago, when DB Schenker constructed a 228,000-square-foot freight campus at O'Hare International Airport. The Dallas facility is scheduled to begin operations on Oct. 1 of this year.
