Intalio, Inc., creator of an open-source software platform for business-process management, now supports version 1.1 of Business Process Modeling Notation. BPMN 1.1 was recently ratified by the Object Management Group. Intalio/Designer, a process-modeling tool, is the first to support the new notation, the vendor claimed. The latest version of the software can be downloaded from the Intalio Community Website at bpms.intalio.com. BPMN 1.1 offers several benefits over the previous version, clearing up ambiguities between throwing and catching events, and adding new notation specifications, such as the Signal event. Signal increases efficiency and loose coupling by broadcasting the event to any event listener, either within the process or in another process. Previously, Intalio said, the process designer had to send a separate message or error event for each specific target. That task can now be accomplished with a single call. In another company development, Intalio announced a new partnership with Alfresco Software, Inc., a provider of software for enterprise content management (ECM). The integrated offering of Intalio/BPMS and Alfresco ECM will allow users to manage advanced document-centric workflow processes, and support the collaborative development of complex business processes.
