Sirit Inc. has released a new firmware version of its INfinity 510 (IN510) UHF reader with radio frequency identification (RFID) capability. Version 2.0 includes several enhancements to the unit, including improvements in the vendor's proprietary tag-acquisition algorithms, tag singulation performance and reader sensitivity. The Dense Reader Mode interference tolerance has been improved in line with new benchmark levels for the industry. New features include support for the EPC Gen 2 custom commands built into NXP's UCODE G2XM and G2XL chips. The custom commands extend the functionality of EPC Gen 2 applications beyond simple compliance tagging. Included among the commands is Electronic Article Surveillance for increased theft protection, and Read Protect to prevent authorized reading of tags. The company has also added a number of regional regulatory capabilities to the reader, including Australia, China, Israel, South Africa and Taiwan, bringing to 18 the number of regions now supported. Products currently covered under Sirit's warranty program qualify for a free upgrade, the company said.
