Walmart officially opened another high-tech market fulfillment center (MFC) May 22 at a store located in Bentonville, Arkansas. The automated warehouse located inside Walmart Store #100 is powered by a storage and retrieval system known as Alphabot.
Walmart expects the MFC will increase the number of orders the store can fulfill each day, adding the Alphabot system will create new in-store leadership jobs.
“This new order fulfillment system is truly game-changing,” said Ryan Simpson, store manager at Store #100. “Not only does it enhance the customer experience through quicker, more accurate online order fulfillment, it also provides us the runway to continue growing our business now and in the future.”
To celebrate the opening of the MFC at the Bentonville store, the Walmart leadership team donated $15,000 to three Bentonville-based schools.
This is Arkansas’s first MFC, and the second MFC to be opened in the United States, after Store #2142 in Salem, New Hampshire. Walmart said it plans on opening more MFCs in additional stores over the coming years.
