SpringCM, a vendor of on-demand software for document management and workflow, has developed SpringCM version 4.4. The new version of the application, offered under a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, adds records-management capability in addition to several new process-automation and usability enhancements. According to SpringCM, the tool is designed to help companies comply with internal and external content-retention requirements, as well as facilitate "e-discovery." It can define retention schedules for electronic documents and e-mails; consolidate e-mails, electronic documents and scanned images into a single searchable repository; automatically assign retention policies based on record classification; apply the optical character reader (OCR) process to faxes, PDFs and Microsoft Office documents so that content inside files is fully text-searchable; support legal holds, records declarations and destruction workflows; search records based on discovery criteria; classify each document with discovery-specific metadata, and enable collaboration between internal and external counsel in a secure, Web-based production environment. In addition, SpringCM has enhanced its support for the salesforce.com sandbox environment, so that companies can connect it to SpringCM and test the experience before exposing it to users. By combining records management with existing capture, document-management and process-automation capabilities, SpringCM 4.4 allows users to manage the complete content lifecycle in a single on-demand platform, the vendor said.
