Ford Motor posted an almost 8% increase in U.S. auto sales for the third quarter of 2023 driven by the demand for crossover SUVs and pickup trucks.
Sales of Ford’s F-Series models increased by 13.4% year-over-year to 190,477 trucks. Through 2023, F-Series sales have topped out at 573,370 trucks, easily outselling second-place Silverado trucks by over 169,000 units.
Ford also saw its EV sales increase by 14.8% year-over-year to 20,962 vehicles. Quarterly sales of Ford’s Mustang Mach-E EV grew by 42.5%. Mach-E sales rose by 153% from August 2023 to September 2023.

Overall truck sales by Ford increased by 15.3% from the same period last year. Meanwhile, Ford’s hybrid vehicle sales grew by 41.4% from Q3 2022 to Q3 2023.
“We saw strong, balanced sales growth providing choice to our customers in the third quarter, with growth coming from our gas engine, electric, hybrid and commercial van lineup,” said Andrew Frick, the vice president of sales, distribution and trucks. “Ford’s truck lineup remains the industry’s top seller. The Maverick and Bronco Sport remain red hot after Ford boosted manufacturing capacity earlier this year. The all-new seventh-generation Mustang is off to a jack-rabbit start in its first full month, up 90% in September over last year.”
Overall, new vehicle sales in the U.S. reached 1.33 million units during September, according to Reuters.
Ford is one of three major U.S. car manufacturers that are currently dealing with strike actions from members of the United Auto Workers union. The UAW began striking against Ford, GM and Stellantis at plants in Missouri, Michigan and Ohio September 15.
