ALK Technologies has released PC-Miler/Rail 15, the latest version of its software for railroad routing, mileage and mapping. The product includes a new TCP/IP interface, allowing customers more easily to integrate rail mileage will all major transportation-management system (TMS) software. PC-Miler/Rail determines actual operating or shortline (tariff) routes and miles between any two freight stations in North America. It includes 240,000 miles of rail line, more than 49,400 active freight stations, 709 railroads and more than 3,600 interchanges. The new version includes eight new railroads and 200 additional unique junctions. PC-Miler also helps to ensure fair payment of fuel surcharges, car hire and state ad valorem taxes through the use of accurate mileage calculations, ALK said. Other benefits, according to the company, include improved fleet utilization with optimized rail routing, and lower empty haulage costs through the tracking of empty and loaded miles by railcar, carrier and state.
