DB Schenker has reorganized its contract logistics services for high-tech companies in Europe. The company is assigning a team of 1,000 employees at Schenker High Tech Logistics to focus on meeting the needs of customers in the high-tech, consumer electronics, semiconductor and renewable energies businesses. The team will be based at 32 locations in nine European countries, and will work closely with the local offices of DB Schenker. The reorganization allows the company to implement logistics services for those markets across Europe. Activities in the core areas of production supply, vendor-managed inventory and reverse logistics will be managed by a joint team of executives from the senior management of Schenker Industrial Logistics GmbH, Kelsterbach and Schenker B.V. in the Netherlands. In a related development, DB Schenker announced a joint venture in Dubai, United Arab Emirates with the owners of BAX Global LLC. The combined operation was to begin doing business as Schenker LLC as of Sept. 1. The new company consists of more than 100 employees, drawing on numerous existing customer relationships. The current expansion of the harbor facilities, coupled with the benefits of Dubai Logistics City and the international airport, are driving creation of one of the world's largest logistics hubs in Dubai, Schenker said.
