Corvus Energy's Pelican Fuel Cell System for ocean vessels has been given the stamp of approval from Norway-based international maritime classification company DNV.
Corvus Energy announced on September 4 that its fuel cell system has received "Type Approval" from DNV, which "confirms it meets the most stringent performance and safety standards required by the maritime industry."
"It is a special fuel cell system," said Corvus head of engines Olaf Drews. "It is the first fuel cell system that uses this technology, and this brings it to a very preferred safety level. This is a milestone, and we look forward to the first ship project."
The company touts the system as a milestone for net-zero shipping, and plans to soon install it on a 35-meter fishing vessel. Corvus Energy says that fuel cell will allow the ship to operate for four days with no emissions.
