The Commercial Transportation division of Rand McNally has introduced software for the trucking industry, which provides dock-to-dock navigation on city and inter-neighborhood streets. IntelliRoute Dock2Dock equips carriers and shippers with GPS-accurate, truck-specific routing, which allows Class 8 and longer combination vehicles to plot routes from origin to destination. The tool minimizes "out-of-route" miles and maximizes fuel efficiency, according to the vendor. It can prevent delays, fines or accidents that occur when drivers aren't aware of truck-routing restrictions to and from highways. Rand McNally's proprietary commercial transportation navigation and digital mapping technology has been enhanced with datasets from Navteq, a provider of digital map data. IntelliRoute Dock2Dock will include more than 6.5 million miles of U.S. truck-attributed roads, with more than 23 million links containing unique truck attributes, the company said. The new product will be available as on online download for existing IntelliRoute customers beginning in October. It easily integrates with other logistics packages via an application-programming interface, Rand McNally said.
