Rand McNally has added functionality to two of its commercial truck-management software packages, IntelliRoute and MileMaker. The additions are intended to give users more flexibility and customization in freight-rating and truck routing, more specific routing in Mexico, and the latest U.S. ZIP and Canadian postal codes, weigh stations and toll costs. Rand McNally claims to be the only provider of street-level routing in Mexico. Carriers and shippers can now plot routes on city and inter-neighborhood streets in North America, the company noted. In order to provide such data, Rand McNally's cartographers and geographic information systems experts enhanced the company's own proprietary data with datasets from Navteq, a provider of digital map data. The detailed information helps drivers on Mexican roads to navigate more efficiently, avoid out-of-route miles and fines, and increase on-time deliveries, Rand McNally said. Carriers and shippers can now use IntelliRoute and MileMaker software to customize routing options for trailers that are 48 feet or less in length across all of Rand McNally's standard routing methodologies: HHG, Practical, Dock2Dock and Lowest Cost. The software enhancements are available free of charge to current customers of Rand McNally.
