Omni-ID, a vendor of passive ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, has launched the OmniTether attachment for its Omni-ID Prox product line. OmniTether uses a tether approach for application to small assets, or those where space is at a premium, such as routers and switches. The design allows for the adoption of RFID tagging in areas where traditional approaches have proved impossible, the company said. All assets in the data center, regardless of size, can be tagged without the need for costly workarounds. According to Omni-ID, OmniTether is best suited for high-value IT asset management, and other specialized applications. It gives companies the ability to tag assets in harsh environments, as well as those in the presence of liquids or with metal surfaces.
