Quintiq, a seller of advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software, has released a new application aimed at the steel caster industry. The Quintiq Caster Planning & Optimization Solution is a fully integrated system for steel making and caster operations, able to handle the industry's complex scheduling needs, according to the vendor. It builds on the foundation of Quintiq's existing technology for multiple industries. The software's architecture allows users to capture all of the specific rules and constraints of each facility. According to Quintiq, the tool leads to improved on-time delivery from casting, creation of longer casting sequences, reduction of stock and mixture zone material produced, the casting of more optimal material dimensions, and better utilization of current inventory through integrated material allocation. Quintiq offers a full range of planning and scheduling software for the steel industry, including Macro Planner for longer-term strategic planning, Company Planner for the management of order acceptance and capacity planning, and scheduling tools for hot mill, cold mill, tube mill, bar mill and service-center applications.
