DB Schenker has opened a new logistics center in Vietnam, under its local operating unit Schenker Vietnam Co. Ltd. The facility is located in Song Than Industrial Park I of Binh Duong Province, close to Ho Chi Minh City. Representing an investment of $5.5m, the project was undertaken jointly with Gemadept, DB Schenker's Vietnam partner. It will function as a logistics hub for original equipment manufacturers and contract manufacturers, especially for companies operating in high-tech and industrial zones in Binh Duong Province and Ho Chi Minh City. The project is also part of the company's effort to strengthen its global footprint and presence in Vietnam and the Asia Pacific region, according to Steve Dearnley, chief executive officer of Schenker (Asia Pacific) Pte Ltd. DB Schenker first entered the Vietnam market in 1990; it currently operates at six locations throughout the country, offering air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, supply-chain management, project logistics and relocation services.
