OD Global, a division of Old Dominion Freight Line Inc., has joined with Hanjin Logistics Inc., a subsidiary of ocean carrier Hanjin Shipping, to create a joint guaranteed less-than-containerload (LCL) service from China to the U.S. Dubbed Pacific Promise, the new offering is designed to move U.S. importers' shipments in LCL quantities with a higher degree of speed, predictability and velocity than standard LCL options. The service features a money-back guarantee. Pacific Promise will supply standard guaranteed transit times and simplified rates from three origin ports in China to virtually the entire U.S., the companies said. Customers can check a rate, create a booking and track shipments from port to door online, at both Old Dominion's and Hanjin Logistics' websites. Rates will be slightly higher than standard LCL but up to 75 percent less than air freight. Pacific Promise will allow customers to cut 10 or more days from their standard LCL transit times. Launched on April 1, the service initially is being offered from the Chinese ports of Shanghai, Shenzhen and Hong Kong to the U.S. ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. Additional destinations will be considered in the near term, the companies said.
