ABBYY, a developer of software for document recognition, data capture and linguistic capabilities, has integrated its TouchTo data-capture product for LCD-based touchscreen technology into the Fujitsu fi-6010N iScanner. TouchTo is the first software to combine Fujitsu's touchscreen color LCD technology with ABBYY's zonal capture engine. Users can directly route any field in any document from a network scanner directly to backend data management, enterprise content management and enterprise resource planning systems. The new product draws on touch technology to simplify the process of extracting data from scanned documents in the front office. TouchTo combines the latest optical character reader (OCR) technology with the Fujitsu touchscreen to reduce the steps required to get fields from scanned documents into backend systems. Users scanning documents can route data-capture and metadata extraction results into applications from the scanning entry point. Prior to the release, the companies said, data extraction was performed on a separate PC, requiring one or more operators to input documents and process them in separate steps. Now, data extraction is performed simply by tapping on a word or number as the document is displayed on the scanner's LCD screen.
