Cadec Global, a provider of fleet-management software and services, has created what it says is the first software-based technology for remote engine shutdown of trucks and buses, to prevent hijacking and cargo theft. The company's Remote Engine Shutdown module is part of a new line of optional safety modules for its PowerVue platform called ProTecht. PowerVue is a hosted application built on a service-oriented architecture. By automatically collecting data on driver behavior and vehicle location and speed, PowerVue helps fleets to optimize performance and enhance supply-chain visibility, Cadec says. ProTecht applications, designed as optional add-on modules for PowerVue, are aimed primarily at bus fleets and haulers of fuel and hazardous materials.
