Amitive, Inc., a vendor of supply-chain management software, has created a hosted version of its product. Delivered via the software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, Amitive Unity 5.0 is aimed at companies of all sizes that outsource manufacturing. It optimizes multi-company communications to support forecasts, shared capacity, inventory and business goals. The tool synchronizes real demand and lean supply, while providing end-to-end visibility into business processes across a distributed community of partners. A new automatic load-balancing feature monitors each community's traffic and usage, then deploys additional service capacity when needed. Each Amitive community has the ability to create its own set of customized business processes. The SaaS model eliminates the need for users to pay in advance for "just-in-case" computing power, according to Amitive chief executive officer Amar Singh. The application can scale according to the user's data volume and transaction loads. The pay-as-you-go approach means that costs reflect actual utilization, the vendor says.
