Smart Software, Inc., a vendor of applications for demand forecasting, planning and inventory optimization, has shipped version 8.2 of SmartForecasts. The latest update includes a number of enhancements, including new ways to filter and manage data, ensure accurate forecasts and inventory stocking estimates, classify results for improved financial and inventory planning, and handle an expanded range of forecasting tools. Embedded parameter technology allows planners to customize forecasting jobs for thousands of product items, down to the item level or up to the group level, Smart Software said. Multi-level forecasting can be used for creating budgets and inventory or demand planning involving multiple hierarchies. The new release also extends the vendor's intermittent demand forecasting capabilities for inventory items found in service-parts organizations and capital-goods manufacturers. And it introduces improvements to SmartForecasts' user interface and navigation. SmartForecast integrates easily with various host databases, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2, as well as with most enterprise resource planning systems.
