Intalio Inc. has acquired Webtide, developer of the open-source, Java-based application server known as Jetty. It is currently used on millions of Web servers, underlying such products as Cisco SESM, Google AppEngine, HP OpenView, IBM Tivoli Netview and Yahoo! Zimbra. Jetty can be embedded into other open-source products, including Eclipse, Felix, Geronimo, Liferay, Nuxeo and Ubuntu. It can also be used as a standard Java application server by open-source projects for "cloud" computing, including Eucalyptus and Hadoop. The self-funded Webtide venture has 10 employees and maintains offices in the U.S., United Kingdom, Italy and the Philippines. It will now be managed as a fully owned subsidiary of Intalio. Intalio is a vendor of hosted computing platforms, with more than 600 customers in 55 countries. The company recently announced a partnership with Mellanox, maker of InfiniB Interconnect technology. The vendor's InfiniBand enables the high data throughput rates that are necessary for delivering hosted applications.
