Horizon Logistics LLC, the third-party logistics-management arm of Horizon Lines Inc., has launched an integrated import logistics system called 3V Distribution Services. The product offers a variety of value-added distribution tools for small to medium-sized shippers in the Asia-U.S. trades. Horizon performs consolidation and ocean transportation services from Asia to the U.S., as well as inland transportation and delivery via rail, truckload and less-than-truckload. The company also maintains a Web portal for booking ocean transportation and monitoring international logistics operations. Customers can track shipments by purchase order, SKU, part number, container number or bill of lading. For value-added distribution and fulfillment, Horizon operates a warehouse and cross-dock facility in Rancho Dominguez, Calif., close to the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Services include storage, pick, pack, kitting and assembly. Horizon initially will target electronic commerce and catalog retailers for 3V Distribution Services, to meet their need for rapid fulfillment and delivery. Horizon Logistics also operates as a non-vessel operating common carrier and freight forwarder.
