Motorola Inc. has developed new hands-free, voice-directed technology for the warehouse. Its latest offering consists of the WT4090 Voice Only Wearable (VOW) Terminal and the RCH50 Rugged Cabled Headset. The system is intended to replace paper-based processes in the warehouse, the freezer, on the loading dock or on the factory floor. The tool offers wireless network connectivity and high-powered processing. The voice function includes support for voice recognition, text-to-speech engines and Voice-over WLAN. The WT4090 VOW can be customized by way of three programmable keys. The RCH50 is a rugged, lightweight headset which enables hands-free, voice-directed mobility units. It features a waterproof, noise-canceling microphone which enables real-time voice communications. A quick disconnect feature allows for rapid separation of the headset. The design is compatible with Motorola's portfolio of rugged mobile computers. Both devices have passed a number of stringent design tests for stress and endurance, and can withstand extreme temperatures, drops to concrete and wet and dusty environments. They will be available globally in the first quarter of 2010.
