The Motorola Solutions unit of Motorola, Inc. has developed a new mobile computer which offers workers the ability to select the wireless network of their choice. The MC959B is a data-only device which offers a dual 3G wide area network (WAN) modem, allowing the unit to be deployed on multiple networks. Users can switch between 3.5G GSM HSUPA and 3.5 CDMA EVDO RevA connections. The model incorporates Qualcomm's Gobi connectivity technology. Companies can deploy the device on virtually any 3.5G network, Motorola claimed. The new rugged mobile computer is designed for field operations in such areas as transportation and logistics, parcel and post, direct store delivery, field service and public safety. The technology is especially well-suited to users who work in large territories with coverage areas that might best be served by multiple cellular networks, the company said. In a related announcement, Motorola Solutions has developed the MC65, a rugged mobile computer designed for scan-intensive environments. Like the MC959B, it provides worldwide communications via MAX FlexWAN, with dual 3.5G WAN for both GSM HSPA and CDMA EVDO RevA network support.
