Wavelink Corp. is releasing version 5.0 of Wavelink Avalanche, the vendor's software for managing mobile devices and wireless infrastructure. The update provides a vendor-agnostic system for wireless operations; added capabilities include device location mapping, additional WWAN enhancements, security compliance tools and a Web-based console. Wavelink Avalanche provides centralized configuration, deployment and management of mobile devices and wireless infrastructure that works across local and wide area networks. Users can view detailed information on the current and past location of devices, and how they are being used. The client gathers GPS information, including latitude, longitude, heading and speed. Device locations are then provided in a worldwide, Web-based map with street-level views. When GPS is unavailable, Avalanche can supply location information based on cell tower associations. Other features of version 5.0 include two-way messaging functionality, stronger encryption, a redesigned user interface and wireless infrastructure heat maps, which display predicted wireless coverage and device locations on a floor-plan diagram.
