Honeywell has expanded its Dolphin 6000 product line of mobile computers with the Dolphin 6500, a lightweight model designed for use in retail, supply chain and other light-industrial environments. The device is equipped with a 3.5-inch color touch screen, multiple keypad options and advances in data collection, imaging and communication. It is intended for a variety of in-store and back-room operations, including price checking, product lookup, inventory control, customer assistance and asset management. Honeywell is offering two keypad options, 28-key numeric and 52-key alphanumeric. According to the company, the lightweight nature of the device lends itself to single-handed scanning, so that users can multi-task. The second offering in Honeywell's Dolphin 6000 series, the 6500 is equipped with Adaptus Imaging technology, allowing for high-performance data collection for linear and 2D bar codes, digital image capture and intelligent signature capture. It runs the Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 5.0 operating system. Shift-PLUS power-management technology results in a minimum battery life of 10 hours, Honeywell claimed. The Dolphin 6500 is available with Service Made Simple, Honeywell's service offering with comprehensive coverage for normal wear and tear, as well as accidental breakage, for three to five years.
