SkyBitz has joined with Iridium Communications Inc. to offer customers enhanced global tracking and monitoring of assets. SkyBitz is a vendor of remote asset tracking and information management systems. Iridium provides global mobile satellite services (MSS). Under the new arrangement, it becomes the first provider of two-way global MSS for SkyBitz. The integration of SkyBitz's Global Locating System technology with the recently announced Iridium 9602 satellite data transceiver makes possible a two-way, remote asset tracking and monitoring system. According to the partners, it will feature lower power consumption and longer battery life than is commercially available today. The technology will be built around the Iridium 9602, a small, lightweight and low-cost transceiver which enables two-way satellite links for low-latency, real-time data transmission. The integration creates an open architecture and scalable platform that is not restricted to custom mobile terminal hardware. According to the two companies, the technology is especially well-suited for markets such as trailer tracking, oil, gas, chemical, rail, cargo shipping and government. Such sectors require continuous, global in-transit visibility from origin to destination, the companies said.
