Qualcomm Inc. is integrating data from its on-board communications systems for trucks into the outbound and backhaul management systems for private fleets from CAMS Software Corp. Qualcomm provides integrated wireless systems to transportation, logistics and service fleet companies; CAMS is a vendor of back-office transportation-management systems for the grocery and retail distribution market. Real-time integration will allow users to better allocate resources and manage driver labor, according to CAMS president Brian Taylor. Instead of relying on drivers to write reports and back-office personnel to manually key in information, users can combine trip and resource information. In addition, the integration of workflow information with CAMS software systems enables fleet managers to track the delivery and recovery of reusable items, such as totes and pallets, by store location. The inclusion of Qualcomm's Circle of Service workflow information automates such functions as load assignment, event triggers and work process forms. Back-office functions managed by CAMS include dispatch, payroll, reporting and backhaul optimization.
