Wavelink Corp. has made available Avalanche 5, the latest version of its software for the management of mobile devices and wireless infrastructure. New capabilities of the tool include a Web-based console, device location mapping, wireless wide area network (WWAN) enhancements and enhanced security-compliance tools. Wavelink Avalanche provides centralized configuration, deployment and management of mobile devices and wireless infrastructure that work across local and wide-area networks. According to the vendor, the technology improves the productivity of mobile workers, boosts network security and reduces the cost of owning and managing mobile devices and peripherals. The new Web-based console can be accessed via a standard browser and requires no installation. It includes an integrated reporting module and wireless infrastructure heat maps, displaying predicted locations of wireless coverage and devices on a floor-plan diagram. Device location mapping allows users to view detailed information on the current and past location of devices being managed. In another recent company announcement, Datalogic Mobile is pre-licensing Wavelink device management software on its next-generation industrial mobile device, known as Elf. Wavelink Avalanche is pre-loaded and pre-licensed on all shipping devices, as it is with other Datalogic Mobile computers.
