APL Logistics and Japan's Sumitomo Warehouse Co. have entered into a joint marketing arrangement for their global supply-chain services. The deal calls for Sumitomo to offer its warehousing and other logistics capabilities in Japan to APL Logistics customers. APL Logistics, in turn, will make its global services available to Sumitomo customers. Sumitomo services include deconsolidation, warehousing, distribution, transportation management, value-added services and customs brokerage. APL performs purchase order management, buyers' consolidation management, value-added services, factory load management, customs brokerage, freight forwarding and trucking in global markets. The arrangement "permits us to support each other through business leads and joint sales efforts with a broad international client base," said Jim McAdam, president of APL Logistics. Shoichi Abbe, president of Sumitomo Warehouse, said the alliance allows his company to provide "logistics strategies and efficient logistics services from a global perspective."
