DB Schenker Logistics has developed a new cardboard box for the transportation of clothing suspended from garment hangers. The boxes can be folded for return to Asia in ocean containers, and reused several times. The company's Skybridge service combines air and ocean freight, cutting transit times by 30 to 50 percent versus straight ocean freight, and costing 30 to 50 percent less than straight air, DB Schenker claimed. The service also offers a 50-percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions over air. DB Schenker initially developed the box for a major fashion customer. It can be used on the route from Asia to Europe up to five times, after which it can be recycled, the company said. Each garment is transported on a hanger and wrapped in special foil, offering protection against creases, dirt and damp. The merchandise is made ready for sale at the point of dispatch, and can be delivered straight to destination without further preparation.
