Matson Navigation Co. is adding a second string of vessels to its weekly China-Long Beach Express service. The route connects Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai with the Port of Long Beach, Calif. The change begins in mid-August and will be in full effect by early October, the line said. The new service allows Matson to offer twice-weekly departures from Shanghai with a 10-day transit time. Matson currently offers a weekly service from Xiamen, Ningbo and Shanghai to Long Beach. Matson, whose roots are in domestic service between Hawaii and the U.S. mainland, entered the China market in 2006. It now offers ocean transportation for Hawaii, Guam, China and Micronesia, in addition to intermodal connections through its logistics unit, Matson Integrated Logistics.
