RedPrairie Corp. has added features to its Transportation Management software. As part of the 2010.2 release, the application now includes functionality for optimizing the use of multiple containers on the same move, automating shipment routing to preferred hubs based on required service conditions, and matching specific freight dimensions with appropriate equipment. In addition, the vendor has made several usability enhancements to its Warehouse Management software, in the 2010.2 release of that application. It now includes support for user-defined inventory attributes, allowing for a variety of data formats used to track item characteristics, such as style and luminosity, from point of receipt to point of shipment. Through the automatic initiation of configurable workflows upon creation, users can capture and validate product characteristics beyond lot numbers, origin codes and revision numbers. The new release of Warehouse Management also features the ability to configure "display" items - identifiers for single products that differ in how they are integrated across systems, as well as how they are presented to end users across those same systems. Previously, said RedPrairie, sites with complex enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems needed to have a single base item code which was integrated differently across each WMS, and was displayed uniquely to each user. Companies can now control how the item is represented from an integration perspective, which might be different from how an end user needs to see the item code displayed.
