LeanLogistics Inc. has incorporated LeanDex, its transportation-management index, into the vendor's On-Demand TMS (transportation management system) and Leansource procurement applications. With LeanDex, LeanLogistics taps into its network of shippers, suppliers and trading partners to offer a "real-world" view of the North American transportation market. LeanDex relies on a proprietary algorithm which factors in carrier rate, rate variance, capacity constraints, surplus and deficit market conditions, and other fluctuating influences. The weekly calculation is a moving average which LeanLogistics will release monthly. Customers can use the tool to determine collaborative opportunities based on similar region and lane activities, in addition to tracking contract and spot markets, and truckload and less-than-truckload. LeanLogistics' On-Demand TMS processes shipments representing more than $5bn in freight spend, the vendor said.
