OD-Global, a division of Old Dominion Freight Line, has added seven ports in China to its Pacific Promise service. The offering gives businesses standard guaranteed transit times and simplified rates from a total of 10 origin ports in China to nearly any domestic destination, the provider said. It includes port-to-door tracking of all shipments. OD-Global launched Pacific Promise in April, 2009, with service from Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen/Yantian. It has now added the Chinese ports of Dalian, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Ningbo, Qingdao, Xiamen and Xingang. The cost of the service is expressed as a single rate per cubic meter. While it is slightly higher than standard less-than-containerload (LCL), the rate is up to 75 percent less than air freight, Old Dominion said. The customer can check a rate, create a booking and track a shipment from the port in China to its door by visiting Old Dominion's website, www.odfl.com. The service is targeted at importers in a number of categories, including high-value products, time-sensitive goods and seasonal or promotional items. It is also geared toward companies shipping from a single origin to multiple destinations, or sending products they do not want to entrust to a traditional LCL service.
