Mentor Engineering has released Mentor Fleet, a system for mobile workforce management. The product includes automatic vehicle location, global positioning system (GPS) technology, vehicle telematics, driver behavior monitoring, reporting and maintenance capabilities. It consists of several integrated modules which allow users to track the location and nature of vehicles in their fleet, by viewing a map in real time. Locations are also updated on a real-time basis, and key vehicle and driver information are viewable at a glance. To control fuel costs, the system tracks unnecessary idling, excessive speed and unauthorized usage of fleet vehicles. Results, claimed Mentor, include safer driving practices, fewer vehicle repairs and downtime, and lower operating costs. The application is available in a hosted, or "cloud"-based, version.
