Six ships linked to the U.S. and U.K. have successfully transited the area without coming under attack since January 19.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have signaled that they plan to stop attacking ships with links to the U.S. and U.K. after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

MSC, A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S, Hapag-Lloyd AG and CMA CGM Group have all been hesitant to resume operations in the Red Sea.

The crew of the ship — which includes mariners from at least five countries — had been held captive by Houthis in Yemen since November 2023.

Houthi attacks in the Red Sea date back to November 2023, when rebels attacked the British-owned Galaxy Leader cargo ship and seized its crew. 

Trump signed more than 200 executive orders within hours of being sworn in, including one that requires federal agencies to conduct a review of U.S. trade policies.

So far, diesel emissions at the port are down 92%, nitrogen oxides by 71%, sulfur oxides by 98% and greenhouse gases by 17% since 2005.
