The food industry is ill-prepared as governments worldwide transition to full product traceability, says Foods Connected.

The new system — launched as collaboration with beverage company Diageo — expands Asda's selection of liquor from up to 26 products to 50.

Woolworths locations across Southeast Queensland reported shortages of fresh items like bread, milk, fruit, and poultry, after an upgrade to their WMS went awry. 

The company says that, by consolidating deliveries of perishable and dry goods in one truck, food manufacturers, distributors and retailers can eliminate the costs of multiple deliveries.

The move comes as cocoa futures surged to an all-time high in April, with a supply shortfall prompting prices to more than double in three months.
