Intermec Inc. has introduced Skynax R6, a software platform for mobile communications, data management, remote device management and security in mobile computing systems. Skynax enables fault-tolerant and secure mobile data communications through wireless wide-area network (WWAN) mobile phone networks, wireless local-area networks (WLANs), wired Ethernet and dial-up connections. It is built on a distributed, server-based architecture which provides a framework for extensible and reusable data-management components. Remote device management allows IT managers to exert central control over detailed handheld computer configurations, remotely install system and application software, and monitor end-to-end system performance. In a related development, Intermec is shipping its new PA30 high-performance applicator print engine. The automated print-and-apply process, whereby a label is printed or encoded, verified and automatically applied, increases efficiency in high-volume applications, the vendor claimed.
