Aljex Software has developed customized application programming interfaces (API) to link freight brokers and third-party logistics providers to carriers' online services. An API allows brokers to quickly access tracking information and proof of delivery, as well as extract updated rates and quotes. The data automatically populates the appropriate information fields in a transportation document. Created for individual carriers, the APIs are available to any Aljex customer using that carrier. They pull data from a carrier site through the broker's account, using the broker's log-on and password. As a result, brokers and 3PLs can access all of a carrier's online services without leaving their Aljex screens. They no longer have to update rates in their own systems each time a carrier makes a change and issues an update. Aljex users can query multiple carriers in order to determine least-cost routing, with results displaying within seconds. The capability is especially helpful with multiple less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments, Aljex said. Users eliminate errors while applying the latest appropriate rate.
