This leading cosmetics manufacturer permitted its vendors to execute routing and carrier selection for inbound shipments. Although they provided detailed routing guides, the vendors were not complying with the requirements resulting in insufficient lead times, poor consolidation and limited visibility; a recipe for wasted transportation spend.

UltraShipTMS was implemented to manage inbound logistics returning automated control of routing and tendering to the shipper’s transportation department. Vendors were furnished with a web-accessible portal and trained on using it to request pickup of shipments. Constraints were configured in the TMS to disallow same-day pickups and other inefficient shipping practices.

Routing guide compliance shot from 25% to 100% within weeks. Lead times were drastically increased. Redundant shipping was eliminated. Improved compliance and visibility yielded a 2% annual savings on transportation spend (roughly $3 million per year).
